Resume Project

1. What was the most challenging aspect of your work on this project?
The most challenging aspect overall on this project was being concise. I have a lot of information on my resume, and it was very difficult to format all three versions of my resume so that they didn't look overloaded, but at the same time consisted of pertinent information for the purpose of the resume itself.

2. Describe how your resume changed across the three media/interfaces? How did the move to a different media or interface affect the resume's design? How did the content change?
The original resume was fit on one page, and since there was a lot of information to cover, I had to create columns to keep everything organized and clear. When I moved to the HTML resume, I had more room to play with since there was no defined page and the colors helped organize the information more so than the format. In this format, the content could be further explained since space was not as much of an issue. I was also able to provide links to the various organizations that I have worked with. For the creative resume, my Rubik's cube constricted the space that I had to work with, so a lot of content and details were cut from the resume. Each side of the cube helped keep the information categorized. I also had to keep in mind that each individual square on the sides of the Rubik's cube needed to be evenly covered by text in order to look visually appealing.

3. Describe any technical challenges you faced and how you solved them.
My biggest challenge with the HTML resume was that I did not know what program to use. I tried to download several programs and ended up very frustrated. However then I remembered that google site used for our ePorfolios was pretty easy to use and would fulfill the requirement for this project. My creative resume definitely provided me with the most challenges and frustrations. I really wanted to make it so that if the cube was scrambled different ways, I could still portray some kind of message to the reader. However, this cube can be scrambled in thousands of ways and so I realized it would be nearly impossible for me to figure this out. Also, it would require me to fit a single word on each cube, which would make the text difficult to read. My next idea was to have something go across the bottom of each face of the cube so that when solved, it came together. Once again, space was an issue. I ended up condensing my original resume and pasting each section of the resume onto each face. To add creativity, I superimposed a picture onto each face that pertained to becoming a doctor. This way, when the scrambled cube is solved, the pictures appear.

4. In what ways are your resumes well suited to the rhetorical situation of your present or future position search?
My current position search is to get into medical school to become a doctor. My original resume definitely focuses in on my medical experiences and academic achievements, both of which are necessary to be a competitive candidate. The content of my HTML resume is essentially the same, so again, I feel it is well suited for medical school applications. My creative resume adds an element of challenge which I think is appropriate since medical school is challenging and it will take time to learn all of the material in all of the medical school classes in hopes of one day piecing it together to become a doctor. Just they way a Rubik's cube is solved piece by piece, a doctor has to apply several tests and methods to make sense of symptoms and then determine the diagnosis.
