4. Some challenges or questions that came up as I edited the KB Journal article was keeping myself from altering the author's style. Previously in my editing experience, I had only been checking my own work, so I could make any changes that I wished. While editing this article, I found myself wanting to change sentence structure and style to make it sound better. Having to focus purely on correcting errors and proofreading was definitely a challenge. Another challenge was looking up all the grammar rules that I had previously taken for granted. I had to be sure that the corrections I was making were valid, and I learned a couple new rules that were unfamiliar to me beforehand.

5. The main challenge of editing the Richardson section was the fact that it was the works cited. I really had having to make citation pages and I always tend to put it off till the end when writing a paper. A more specific problem within the works cited was the way the author cited his references. I had to go through and add the medium of publication to everything as well as removing all URLs. I then realized that many of the "web" references that the author cited were in fact print references with links to internet card catalogs. So I tried to separate the print from the web references, but because of the pay-to-view nature of some of the catalogs I can't be completely positive that I was successful.

6. Two rules that I did not know previously were that URLs were no longer required in the new version of MLA format and that lists could be separated using semicolons.

7. One thing that I did not know about the tools of technical editing was that they are available easily through Microsoft Word. I hadn't ever used track changes to edit a document, and I was not aware of the comment functionality as well. Previously, I had just printed out papers and editing using a pen, but now that I am aware of their ease of use and access, I can use track changes for my editing needs.

8. I learned that technical editing is a time consuming process that requires patience and concentration. I needed patience to not become frustrated at some of the errors I saw, and I needed concentration to avoid the trap of just reading through the articles/works cited instead of actually actively looking for errors.
