Project Log Week 15: Finalizing the ePub and the Semester

This week was a positive conclusion to a fairly tumultuous semester for me. Near the end of class on Thursday, it was really gratifying to see the cover of our book finally appear on the bookshelf of the iBooks app. We could finally call it a done deal.

Project Log Week 14: Troubleshooting the ePub File

Although a missed flight cut class time for week 14 in half, our project is still on schedule to be completed by the end of the semester. I'm disappointed that the client-based design project was scrapped, yet I know the added responsibility would be pretty stressful.

Project Log Week 13: Staring Fresh on the eBook project

Week 13 was an easy one. Michael and I got our eBook prepared in InDesign and saved it as an ePub file.

I was somewhat distracted during class on Tuesday due to an upcoming test in my next class. I got the basic idea of using InDesign to format a book, but I was more or less going through the motions, rather than comprehending the process, as Dr. Blakesley walked us through the steps.

Project Log Week 12: A Less Than Satisfactory Conclusion

It's the first day of Week 13, between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. I'm about to complete and email my evaluation document for the Collaborative Documentation Project. Far too many hours were spent fretting over an assignment that, at its end, seems so trivial.

Although I'd been afraid to approach it since last Thursday, it only took me about an hour to create the HTML page for the indexing documentation. Granted, it's not perfect. I wanted to add tags so that the page would scroll from the top, but I didn't really give myself enough time.

Project Log Week 11: Approaching That Which Has Been Put Off

So. This week was interesting. I'll detail it day-by-day.

Project Log Week 10: Index Documentation Project Gains Perspective

With no class meetings for over a week, I found it very easy to neglect English 314. By Thursday I still hadn't finished my creative resume, I didn't post any of the project logs I missed, and I didn't dedicate any time to the documentation project.

On Wednesday night, Connor texted me to make sure that we were excused from doing any test runs with our documentation since we hadn't done our interview. I assumed that to be the case, but, in hindsight, I should have confirmed it with Dr. Blakesely much earlier.

Project Log Weeks 7-9: Falling Behind and Catching Up

Although it is now the beginning of week 11, my last project log post was for week 6. This entry serves to sum up my work from weeks 7-9.

Week 7 (February 21 and 23)
Melanie and I submitted our book chapter this week. Most of the important info would be in my technical editing submission notes blog post.

Resume Project

Edit: completed 4/10/2012

  1. What was the most challenging aspect of your work on this project?
  2. What proved most difficult for me was paring down descriptions of my various experiences such that they would be succinct and concise, yet still inform my audience of my skills and potential value.

Technical Editing Submission Notes

  1. Usernames of Editors (including yours):
  2. andrewch (me) and MelanieP

  3. Author and Title of KB Journal article edited:
  4. Media Coverage of Natural Disasters: Pentadic Cartography and the Case of the 1993 Great Flood of the Mississippi by Kevin R. McClure

  5. Chapter or Section Edited in Richardson Manuscript:
  6. Chapter 1: An Image to Honor and Worship

Week 6 Project Log - Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail

Resume Project
My progress on the resmue project stalled this week. I got pretty caught up with other schoolwork and chose to neglect this project in favor of the editing project. Although I had an ambitious vision for a video resume, my motivation has been lacking. I didn't have a draft ready for class on Thursday, so now I'm stuck completing the project without valuable peer feedback. Situations like this will, I hope, encourage me to be a better time manager.
