Project tres, Deliverable

I'm currently an undergraduate fellow for the Clemson University Digital Press. The Press is working on a lot of projects, which include the digitizing of past issues of most its publications. The goal is to have the online site up and running to where we can view or purchase previous South Carolina Reviews, Upstart Crows, etc. I will make a sign that enlightens us to the changes the Press is making and that is staying with the times.

My quantitative project is going to be on 'whether a college degree really matters.' The research will be gathered from numerous sources and studies, one being the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Statistics. I'm going to gather the data and create an inDesign info-graphic representing my results.

It is clear that one of the key ingredients is the small multiples concept. With the use of contrasting sizes, pics, lines, and texts, one can guide the readers eyes to the key points at hand and do it in a manner that is not overly-complex. We see these multiples almost everyday in graphics when we go online or even open a book.

This graphic demonstrates the uses of the book vs. electronic readers. The connection between the pages is congruent with the help of the book mark flap that overlays the top of each page, and this allows us to follow the chart downwards easier and creates geometric fluidity.

When a site has a lot of information but it isn't categorized to allow the user to know where they're going, it turns into a crapshoot of where you'll end up. As Katz puts it, it's not really a pragmatic design of where the user immediately understands how to navigate. The front page of the Drudge Report there is a photograph of a man standing at a wall, presumably the West Wall, and it says,"Bibi Goes For History." I'm not following. Though the pic isn't busy, it doesn't allow the average know why he wants to click their and read further.
