It's 2:13 am and I just uploaded the finished tutorials and interviews to Dropbox. I was in the process of finishing everything up Saturday evening when we had that power outage in Clemson. I ended up losing some work because I didn't save, but it wasn't a major setback. Although I'd originally intended to have 5 HTML files--the two interviews, book tutorial, template tutorial, and paragraph style tutorial--I ended up with 4. During the process of creating the template tutorial, it became apparent to me that the template and paragraph style instructions should be merged. The process of creating an InDesign template specifically for book creation is so dependent on paragraph styles that it was nigh impossible to separate the two. I'm confident, however, that a novice following my instructions would be able to create a template and the most basic of paragraph styles.
The two interviews both contain links to each other and include the audio files I recorded while interviewing Keith and Jillian. In retrospect, I really wish I could have recorded them over but I didn't adequately account for the time constraints we'd all be under as the semester progressed. Even after trying to minimize the ambient noise with Audacity, they aren't good quality audio files. Keith's is tolerable since we recorded it in his office, but Jillian's is in a much rougher state. It was recorded outside on the third floor breezeway because she was pressed for time and desperately needed a smoke break. I ended up including two edits of her recording on her page, one that's more audible but has more ambient noise, and one that drastically cuts down on the ambient noise while also losing vocal clarity. I think I'll attempt to re-record them this coming Spring semester, before either of us get too busy.
I'll be displaying the HTML files on my laptop tomorrow. I'm not talented at web design, so the HTML files aren't the most visually appealing to look at. They're each on a dark purple back drop with contrasting orange text (which sounds pretty horrible now that I'm actually typing it out). I'll also have my Blurb book and a copy of the South Carolina Review to display so that people will be able to see the potential for the InDesign book tutorial. I'll also have Comic Life on my computer, but I think I'll load it to my phone in pdf format so that viewers don't have to switch back and forth between so many screens.
