As I continue to progress towards the final project, I cannot help but to focus on the negative. It is not a lack of optimism on my part. Rather, I seem quick to fixate on trees in the forest that then halt me on the trail. Therefore I must beg your patience, dear reader, as I begin by discussing recent errors in my process before moving into my plan-of-action.

Wow, color me embarrassed! I neglected to post my update this past week. Without further ado... My project can safely be parceled into three core components:
Stage 1 :: Theory. With minor adjustments, the paper I presented at RMMLA will serve as the "exigency" portion of my next stage (the "Book Lab Experience"). It does need revision (I originally presented it as a conference pre-paper, or a work in its infancy, in about 30 minutes...).

Its been a fun-filled week! This week I had two core meetings re: the book lab, and directly responded to my project's core problem. In previous weeks, I'd learned *a lot* about Drupal production, downloaded/installed a Drupal site, installed/configured/arranged Blocks/Themes, and begun learning more HTML/CSS/PHP. All good stuff, I admit. But there was one big problem: my exigency was lost to the technowonderment and wizardry. I knew I had a problem when I began to eyeball a tetris module and focus on social media incorporation WITHOUT thinking about the value added.

I could talk about my project...or, I could let the clicking do the talking for me!! I give you...http://parlormultimedia.com/booklab/. For the past week, I've been very engaged in learning Drupal -- installation, customizing themes, uploading/configuring modules, adjusting the "blocks." I'm still working through the social media applications (Twitter feed aggregation and FB).
But...coming right along!!

And the award for shortest blog goes to...
Well, not me, because I have much to say on this subject (fooled you!!!). As articulated in last week's log, my direction has taken shape around three different deliverables for the term (a homepage design, a logo, a theory-based paper). My focus this week is on the third part, the paper, as I intend to deliver it to an audience at the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association in ten short days (eeekkk!!!).

Last week, I painted with a broad brush. I threw spaghetti at the wall. And I devised a list of things that the Lab, in its early formative existence, *could* do to kick things off. I stressed, in particular, the need for developing strong intra-institutional partnerships. I also received very generous and gracious feedback Its now time to trim down to those specific action steps for the semester that are likely to produce the best result, and I propose three such steps.

As one with a long-standing love of comics, cartoons, and most things un/scholarly, I must confess. I'm mad. I'm disappointed. I'm angry as h#ll, and I'm not going to take it anymore ala the film Network. I'm Falling Down meets Matt Daimon's character in Good Will Hunting. And, I'm the child of angry grunge music.
Why?
The Jetsons. Where's my flying car?
